1959 Chevy Impala

1959 Chevy Impala

7″ by 11″ watercolor on paper.  I met the owner of this 1959 Chevrolet Impala at at car show at the Holly Hill Mall a few weeks back.   I’m not planning on only painting black cars, that’s just how they’ve turned out so far.  He has a pretty aqua car that I’m going to go take pictures of later in the week.

Portrait of Xander in Black

Portrait of Xander in Black

Another painting of my sweetie; he was surprised when he came home from Mamma2′s for the weekend and saw it almost done.   He wanted to work on his own watercolor when he saw me working, but it was almost his bedtime.

Three of a Kind

Three of a Kind

15″ by 11″ watercolor on paper, more from my glass series.   I just love vintage glass.  With the holidays and all the related events, I feel bad that this little painting took me so long.   Here’s to a bright and shiny Christmas!

This is Black Sunshine

This is Black Sunshine

15 by 22″ watercolor on paper.  Perfect that I finally managed to complete this on the morning of black friday.  This is Black Sunshine is an homage to one of my favorite White Zombie songs – the one that I love to turn up loud on the highway as I try to be mindful not to go TOO fast.  There is no actual black in this painting; I don’t use black paint.  But I love the organic play of the dark colors, crisp, precise, and maybe a little sinister?

Portrait of Xander

Portrait of Xander

I’ve painted another portrait of Xander – I think this is 15 or 16 paintings featuring him.  How can I help it – he’s such an inspiration, so gorgeous, smart, full of life, insightful, mercurial, vibrant – all the amazing things that made me start painting again in the first place.  He was the first thing I painted after years of not painting.  And he is a subject that I’m sure I will return to for as long as I paint.  Happy 3rd birthday, Xander!
