A side-by-side scan at 400 dpi of a wash in Windsor and Newton phthalo turquoise.    This is on rough finish and cold press paper, 140 lb Arches.  I’m concerned about the “pinpricks” on the cold press paper.  After laying down repeated washes, the pinpricks didn’t really go away.

It’s not just a bad batch of paper, I think.  I’m continuing to explore other surfaces to paint on, and will begin to transition away from my old standby, Arches, for my works. I’ve been intrigued with the results that I have gotten from Golden’s Absorbent ground, applied to a variety of surfaces.  I’ve painted on canvas, board, and even metal using the medium.  With a different painting surface, I think that I’ll also be able to satisfy my craving to create larger works.
